Thanks to the creative genius of Loriann Fell, part time library employee and writer extraordinaire, the Boo contest was born. Who is Boo? Entries came pouring in and what the library found most surprising is how many folks know who Boo is... or at least they think they do...! The competition was stiff and the decisions were extremely difficult; but choices had to be made.

The Hopewell Public Library is proud to announce the winners of the Who is Boo Contest.

We also received a unique entry that deserves notice - some anonymous individual took it upon him or herself to create a song about Boo. Just as the declaration of love for Boo originally arrived sometime in the wee small hours of the night, so did a CD that was secretly dropped into the library's book drop. Hopewell Public Library Launches
"Who is Boo?"
Art - Essay - Poetry contest

HOPEWELL -

When the sidewalk in front of the Hopewell Public Library was replaced, the most mysterious thing happened! Somehow, the words “I Love Boo” magically appeared in one of the new sidewalk squares. This has left the library patrons, Hopewell residents, and visitors from far and wide wondering: Who is Boo?

So, in the spirit of exploring the unknowable, and in celebration of ART as a key to life’s great mysteries, the Hopewell Public Library is holding an Art – Poetry – Short Story Contest entitled Who is Boo?. The contest begins April 23 and submissions will be due May 11.

They will be judged on Imagination and Creativity. No need at all to worry about coming up with a logical explanation! Rather, create an engaging poem, drawing or story that shows us how it might have happened. Each contestant will receive a tee shirt bearing the distinctive Boo logo!

"Who is Boo?" Contest Rules:

Deadline for submissions is May 11^th. Please include name, address, age, and phone number on your entry and submit to the Library. The contest will be judged by a carefully selected panel of writers, readers, and art enthusiasts. Results will be announced at the Library May 17. Prizes will be awarded in all categories.

Artwork – Artists should come to the library and pick up an 11- x 13-inch poster board on which to draw, paint, or mount (collage or multimedia) their submission that illustrates their take on the mystery of Boo. Categories are as follows: 2-5 years old, 6-10 years old, 11-16 years old, 16 and older.

Poetry and Short Stories – Writers should submit a poem or story (1,000 words or less) that explores the mystery of who or what Boo is and why the words are on the library sidewalk. Typing is preferred, but handwritten entries are acceptable. Poetry and Stories will be judged separately. Categories are as follows: Poetry: 6-10 years old, 11-16 years old, 16 and older. Stories: 6-10 years old, 11-16 years old, 16 and older.
